The Cool Cats nurtured their sense of community and communal pride as they learnt in class about the Places in the Neighbourhood. To start, they heard the narration of the story in “Franklin’s Neighbourhood”. They were excited to live out the story they had heard. Emulating Franklin, the main character, the learners explored the school’s neighbourhood. They were excited to foster their sense of interconnectedness. Learners were given the task of spotting the different places in the school’s neighbourhood. They were intrigued by the busy scenes of people and activity in the neighbourhood. The activity wasn’t meant to end in the classroom however. They were asked to continue to foster this enriching learning experience on going home, and to walk around their own neighbourhood to spot the important places there as well.
